Men's Social Football

Teams participate in the Northern Football Federation League across under 19's, open men's and over 35 men's grades.

To register your interest please contact the BUAFC Club Captain who can put you in touch with the relevant team manager. New players are always welcome.

Teams start pre-season training in late February / early March, with league games starting in early April. The season runs through to mid-late August, depending on progress in cup competitions. Games are typically played on saturday afternoons, with training midweek.

Women's Football

Teams participate in the in the Northern Football Federation League.

Teams start pre-season training in late February / early March, with league games starting in early April. The season runs through to mid-late August, depending on progress in cup competitions. Games are typically played either Sunday morning / early afternoon, with training midweek.

 

Mens First Team & Development Team (Reserves)

Teams participate in the NRFL (combined Northern, Auckland and Waikato) league structure. Birkenhead's first team plays in the Premier division. The teams are overseen by the Head of Football and typically start pre-season training in January.

First team games are played on saturday afternoons and are immediately preceded by Development team games. Some midweek games are also played under floodlights.

The first team also compete in the Chatham Cup, New Zealand's premier knockout tournament. The final is typically contested in late September and dates back to 1923. Birkenhead United won the competition for the first time in 2016.

Club Membership

Club membership is $80 per year for non playing members (this fee is included within the playing member team fee)

 

Playing Members

The above membership is paid as part of your annual team fee (paid through your team manager). Team fees are $4,650 (minus student discounts) so based on a squad of 15 players your annual playing fee will be about $310. Teams may charge players more or less, depending on squad size, sponsorship or, need to purchase kit / training equipment for the season ahead.

Approximately $2,000 (of the above) is paid in affiliation fees to NFF and NZF to manage competitions and help grow the game in NZ. All players who take the field must be registered with the club.

Playing Students

Students in full time education receive a $50 discount on their playing membership by showing a current student ID.

Non-playing Members

Non-playing membership fees (shown below) should be renewed at the start of each calendar year.

  • $80 Adult Associate Member

  • $60 Adult Couples Associate Member (each)

  • $15 Senior Citizen Associate Member

 

It is a condition of our club liquor licence that persons who come into our club room (with the exception of those playing or, watching a sporting event) should be a club member.
